Skopelos is all about lazy days in the sunshine, and you could happily sit here for hours at a time enjoying the views over the Aegean, shimmering in endless different shades of blue and criss-crossed by boats busying in and out of the port. There’s a handy shaded barbecue area by the pool, which doubles as your evening aperitif spot before heading down into town for dinner. If you’re travelling with older kids who like to have their own independence, they can wander down into Skopelos Town for a gelato or some super-yacht spotting, while you enjoy the pool and a good book, blissfully undisturbed.
The sea feels ever-present when you stay here, and beyond the town beach it’s an easy drive to discover the west coast beaches like Panormos or Limnonari; go for the clear sea and watersports, and stay for the glorious golden sunsets. And if the green hillsides all around inspire you to venture inland, there are picturesque villages to explore and a cluster of peaceful monasteries on Mount Palouki that are well worth the walk.

Skopelos Town is a Traditional Settlement of Outstanding Beauty, with a charming Chora (old town). White houses wreathed in bougainvillea line narrow cobbled streets that wind steeply down to the harbour. The Chora and port are packed with tavernas, restaurants and speciality shops, offering just enough to keep things interesting without being over-developed. Here, as elsewhere on the island, you can spot fragments of Ottoman and Venetian heritage in monasteries and churches, or simply sit down on the waterfront in the sunshine and watch the world go gently by.
