WALKING HOLIDAYS AND SPECIAL INTEREST WEEKS
Find out more about our exciting programme of Walking Holidays and Special Interest weeks at Arosmari, with all activities priced in to the cost of your holiday.
Arosmari Village Hotel is a haven; a cluster of stone and cypress wood cottages with a beautiful garden at its heart, set in the timeless village of Vamos. Here, among roses, jasmine and lavender are many secret corners to read, meditate or sleep the afternoon away. Touches of the rural past: a shepherd's hut, a threshing circle and even a small chapel are spread among the olive trees and lawn. A leisurely day begins with breakfast served in the gardens, using local produce and later, light lunches can be served by the pool. There is a delightful reading room with an honesty bar with open views over the pool and garden plus a cosy sitting room with old photographs and memorabilia. An extra dimension is a small spa for guests including a Turkish hamam and treatment room for a combination of traditional massages and therapies with scented oils.
Arosmari is a small country hotel for adults and couples only. Our Simpson concierge service will advise on local walks, driving routes and cultural activities including cookery and wine-tasting. In addition, host and pianist Nikos arranges classic Greek music evenings throughout the summer in the small amphitheatre in the gardens of Arosmari, complete with local wines and a delicious traditional supper.
The village of Vamos is set against the spectacular backdrop of the White Mountains. Shepherds still herd their sheep along the flag-stoned lanes and russet-haired goats amble between the olives. Vamos is a small slice of old Crete infused with the values of traditional hospitality. The village is famous for its local crafts and organic produce: including thyme honey, pickles, jams, cheeses and olive oil soap. It also has a local bakery, a 19th-century kafenion and traditional tavernas where mouth-watering Cretan specialities, such as chicken in red wine, cuttlefish and fennel, artichokes or chickpea purée are cooked in stone ovens and served with some of the island's best wine. In low season, log fires create a wonderful evening atmosphere and in summer, large plane trees provide welcome shade. For those who want to explore authentic Cretan food a little further, local cookery courses are available. The village is also the starting point for walking tours of the surrounding countryside and historic Chania town is just a 30-minute drive.

As ever, Simpson Travel delivered the promise! Well done and particular thanks to concierge Joanne Orton - a real asset
Service from Simpsons was uniformly excellent. Range of properties seems very good and the one we were recommended was very good. All aspects of organisation were faultless.
Arosmari Village Hotel is a lovely peaceful place to stay. The staff are very friendly, and the buffet breakfast is superb. Situated in the lovely old village of Vamos with views of the White Mountains, it is an idyllic spot to rest and enjoy Crete.
Everything provided by Simpson travel was of the highest standard - especially the walking element itself . Led by the excellent and knowledgable Jonathon Peat (supported by his wife Myriam), the tour combined reasonably challenging walks with ancient and modern history (seen and discussed), study of the native flora, thought-provoking philosophy and great lunches. In all, a very stimulating but relaxing cultural holiday.
A very special place, excellent accommodation in a village setting. The gardens are lovely and well cared for. The pool and the surrounding area always spotless. Joanna was a very effective manager. Friendly and knowledgeable and always approachable. Breakfast, a buffet service, was amazing with incredible staff and choice and variety of excellent quality food. I think the leadership by Joanna was relevant in all aspects of the ‘hotel’ and Nikos the owner and developer of the site, also on hand. The highlight evening concert was unexpected and magical evening of Greek music and food. The local tavernas within a very short walk were good, friendly and with an excellent quality of food.
Joanne (concierge) was excellent booking trips, taxis etc. and organising local events. She also went above and beyond when my partner tripped and fell, taking us to the excellent local healthcare centre, helping us through the system! Jackie was given a thorough check over Inc CCG, X-ray, blood tests and results in under 40mins all for 12 Euros!! Which was very reassuring. She deserves 5*+!
A wonderfully relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings.
A perfect holiday in virtually every respect, what a stunning place! Our concierge was utterly superb, friendly, welcoming, always available, nothing was too much trouble, went above and beyond their call of duty. We can’t recommend Arosmari highly enough, thank you.
Still never fails to delight and, once again, when we stepped inside the grounds on arrival, the trials and tribulations of life and the world outside scuttled away to leave us at peace in the grounds of this special haven. Joanne and her lovely team were as helpful and delightful as ever, adding to our enjoyment of the place and, as always, Arosmari remains a special place in our hearts.
We had a wonderful stay at the Arosmari Hotel in Vamos. We had a lovely cottage - Basil - with a fabulous first floor balcony with amazing 180 degree views to the White Mountains. The village is amazingly quiet and peaceful with access to brilliant walks and there are all the facilities you could want nearby. We would thoroughly recommend this as a tranquil holiday location. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and set us up for the day.
Arosmari was a perfect place for exploring the region and Joanne was full of knowledge and tips of where to visit that would suit us as we like to go off the beaten track !!! Scenery stunning and fabulous traditional tavernas within walking distance from our little house in the evening. Nice relaxing gardens and poolside to read. A perfect choice to do as much or as little as one pleases. Thank you to all the wonderful team who work so well together to make this place a little bit of heaven !!
We had yet another wonderful stay at Arosmari. There simply isn't anything negative to be said about this amazing place. (The fact that we have already booked to return next year says it all!) Thank you to Joanne, Susan, Nikos and all the lovely staff. And of course Ruby's breakfasts are just as amazing! The only problem that we did experience was with the hire car, and this was dealt with by the car hire company swiftly and efficiently. This is another example of the standard set by Simpson and the companies it chooses to offer services to clients!
I recommend Arosmari as a delightful base from which to explore eastern Crete and the White Mountains, or as a perfect, calming retreat.
The writing course at Arosmari was sensational. A wonderful mix of holiday and learning. Greg Mosse is a skilled teacher who is also a published author with enthusiasm for everyone and their writing aspirations.
We had an excellent holiday at Arosmari and Joanna was most helpful and pleasant. The breakfasts were delicious and we sometimes had lunch brought to our room. All very tasty with fresh local food. It was good to be able to walk into the village to have an evening meal on some occasions and an ice-cream most afternoons! I particularly enjoyed the Writing Course run by Gregg and Kate Mosse and it added to the great experience to get to know a new group of people with a similar interest.
I had the most amazing time at Arosmari. It is a truly magical place. Jo, the Simpsons rep, was tremendously helpful and super good at her job. She was always ready to lend a hand and had lots to offer with regard to advice on trips and days out. The creative writing experience with Greg and Kate Mosse, was outstanding. I have a Masters in CW and I learnt more in one week from Greg than I did in an entire year in University. The final night at Arosmari, with the music concert and Greek feast, was absolutely superb. I was so sorry to leave and will definitely return.
Had a wonderful stay at the delightful Arosmari Village Hotel arranged excellently by Simpson Travel.
This was my second holiday at Arosmari Village hotel. It's a beautiful, peaceful setting where you can truly relax. The service is friendly and well balanced, creating a family feel and the owners work extremely hard to ensure high standards with a good attention to detail. I'm a single traveller who doesn't like the idea of 'singles holidays', but I still want the opportunity to meet other guests and make friends. Simpson Travel offers a unique compromise at Arosmari. The hotel is small enough that you can get to know the other guests relatively quickly, whilst still providing space and independence. The local concierge is friendly and supportive, instinctively knowing when a little extra help or conversation might be welcomed. She even went the extra mile to build my confidence to navigate the local roads in a hire car. I've not only taken away some amazing memories from this holiday, but also a new found confidence and lasting friendships. Thank you.
The Creative Writing course is an absolute winner. Informative and inspirational, Greg and Kate Mosse were super generous with their time, approachable and open to dealing with questions, in an environment which leaves restful time and space to enjoy Arosmari as well. More please!
Arosmari Village Hotel is a beautiful tranquil place which has a magical feel to it due to the quiet village location, the beautiful gardens & the friendly team of both staff & family. We felt welcome at all times & an evening spent with the family, their friends & the local villagers celebrating a festival with food & music in the garden was particularly special & also very kind to include us. The cottage was very pretty with comfortable beds, two terraces & everything you need for a relaxing break. The breakfast buffet was very comprehensive, all locally sourced & all delicious. A lovely lovely holiday in a lovely lovely place. Thank you.
My yoga retreat stay at Arosmari definitely exceeded my expectations. My beautiful accommodation in Camomile suited all my needs and more. Jo our rep was friendly and helpful at all times. The yoga with Sarah Jane was absolutely fantastic and cant wait until next year to do it all over again! All in all a wonderful experience.
Arosmari is a very special place. We felt totally relaxed while staying here and were very well looked after by everyone. There are lots of tavernas within easy walking distance plus lovely beaches a little drive away. We especially loved the pool area and the garden which has lots of places to lie and relax.
A really relaxing holiday, despite the extreme heat. Lovely setting and super tavernas just a short walk away
Joanne was outstanding
As usual, all excellent
On our arrival we were given a very warm welcome by Nicos, the owner, Susan, the island rep, Ruby, the caterer, and Joanne the concierge. During our stay they and the other members of staff made our holiday an excellent experience. The weekly Greek music events hosted by Nicos were much appreciated and entertaining. This was our fifth stay in the unique Arosmari hotel, the setting and service means that we will hopefully return.
Our third visit to Arosmari and it's still as lovely as ever. Excellent location, friendly staff and great accommodation. If anything, it was a little too hot!
We love coming to Arosmari and have come about 5 - 6 times up to now. We love the location, the beautiful garden and pool, and having our own spacious self-contained accommodation with outdoor seating and dining area. Arosmari is a very relaxing place to be, where we can just recharge, or be more active by visiting surrounding towns and villages, by walking in the hills, or exploring further afield. The breakfasts are ample with lots to choose from, catering for all tastes and dietary preferences. The staff are friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. I would happily recommend Arosmari for people seeking somewhere quiet and out of the way for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
We recently stayed at The Arosmari Village Hotel for a week during the Cretan Food Week. We stayed in Lavender cottage. Apart from a couple of days the weather was lovely. The cookery lessons were very informal and great fun, also the off site visits for wine tasting and olive oil production were interesting and informative. The Arosmari is a lovely and unusual place to stay, very peaceful and quiet (no piped music) with something interesting to see around every corner, quite magical really. The musical evening followed by a lovely meal was probably the highlight for us - very special. The farewell dinner was also much appreciated, it was very sociable to dine with all your fellow guests. I must mention Joanne, our concierge. Joanne is very friendly, super helpful and always happy to answer any questions. Definitely a real asset to the hotel. Overall, I would definitely recommend The Arosmari if you want a quiet peaceful holiday (possibly with a theme - there is lots of choice).
A wonderful relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting. Everything was very thoughtfully presented and well maintained. The situation of the accommodation on the edge of the village was perfect, with plenty of small local restaurants and places easy to drive to further afield .
Excellent accommodation, friendly staff and very comfortable in every way.
Overall we very much enjoyed our holiday, Joanne and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We very much enjoyed our second visit.
Thank you to the team at Arosmari. Great apartment in a fabulous location. Wonderful breakfasts and attention to our comfort during the week. A first experience with Simpsons and a very good one!
The entire experience at Arosmari Village Hotel surpassed all expectations. It was the most blissful experience and visually stunning. Everything was perfect and the staff were exceptional. I was lucky enough to do a water colour painting course whilst there with the delightful Francesca and it was wonderful. I was the only single lady but that wasn’t a problem at all. I felt very safe and comfortable with all the other couples who were the friendliest bunch. To celebrate the fabulous holiday we were taken to the local taverna for dinner on our last night. How lovely is that! I’m so impressed with Simpson Travel after that wonderful holiday. I’ve booked my next holiday to France already and am so excited if the standard is as high as I experienced in Crete. It’s a big thank you from me!
Excellent holiday and Jonathan and Myriam were excellent leaders.
A second terrific stay at Arosmari. Thank you for looking after us so well. We hope you have a great summer here - we will be back!
Sorry to be leaving Basil cottage after a wonderful week. Weather outstanding. Staff are excellent and made the holiday so much fun. Helpful hints on places of interest, to visit and good eating opportunities.
A unique hotel that combines an authentic Greek village experiences in a beautiful setting. Beautiful pool and tranquil gardens looking out to the White Mountains. Nikos the owner and his team are hard working and efficient and Joanne from Simpson is very helpful. The Easter package was memorable for the right reasons.
Love this place!
Everything was brilliant. The quality of all interioir fittings, decor and beds/bedlinen was great. Slept like a log every night and the sheep bells were a wonderful wake-up call in the morning...no worries, it was after 7am! The bathroom was small and dark but that is probably unavoidable in the old stone cottages and was a price worth paying for the lovely authentic atmosphere. It felt like a privilege to be in original old buildings
This is the first time we have used Simpson Travel. I could not fault them or the holiday.
Arosmari is a cluster of small dwellings around a beautiful garden where the staff make you feel welcome and relaxed. The breakfasts were brilliant and the concert in the garden was a treat. It is the perfect place to explore the natural beauty of the West of Crete and to relax.
An authentic experience of Cretan hospitality at Greek Easter in beautiful surroundings, with modern amenities, and helpful caring staff.
This was our 7th Greek walking holiday with Jonathan Peat as our guide and once again our confidence was justified in his ability to ensure everything ran smoothly and we had a fabulous experience. His charming wife Myriam made us so welcome too, and her picnics were an absolute delight.
We were at Arosmari for Easter and we were treated so well with many meal inclusions, Simpson and Nikos were so generous which we all appreciated. Dinner and drinks on the first evening got everyone chatting and it was a lovely mix of characters. Jonathan's walking trip with his wife’s splendid lunch were enriching and most enjoyable. Joanne and Susan were always on hand and so helpful.
Our 2nd holiday at Arosmari! A wonderful 2 weeks enjoying all aspects of the Greek Easter celebrations included in the first week and culinary jaunts and demonstrations in the 2nd week. A guided walk by Jonathan Peat was a particular highlight, topped by the stunning picnic created by his wife Myriam. We made full use of the guided walking books on loan to explore the glorious springtime local scenery, flora and fauna. The team at Arosmari are exemplary- so welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in any situation, with Joanne the concierge a superb team leader. Thanks to all at Simpson for giving us another outstanding holiday!
Thank you for a dream of a holiday.
Arosmari is a wonderful rustic resort in an authentic Cretian village. Each of the cottages are well equipped and every one is different. The breakfast was amazing and very healthy! Vamos is a lovely village/town with some excellent restaurants. Easy access (by car) to Chania if you fancy a ‘buzzy’ evening or a bit of retail therapy! Wonderfully relaxing away from it all break. All the staff were really helpful and friendly. Would definitely return.
We have had a fabulous week – we came looking for some restorative peace after an immensely stressful summer and that is exactly what we found. Arugula has been thoughtfully furnished and equipped – including umbrellas which we sadly needed! But we also had some beautiful, warm and sunny days. Thank you to all who have made our stay so memorable – Jo and Thanassis, who are the perfect hosts, Ruby and Natalia in the kitchen making amazing breakfasts and all the other staff too.
A fabulous week of yoga in this beautiful place both morning and evening followed by one of the best breakfasts we have experienced in our travels. The lovely lady who cleaned our room each day – thank you. It was like having your mum take care of you again! Thanks to Joanne who couldn’t have been more helpful and informative. Our cottage was pretty amazing – the whole of Arosmari is so beautiful. Sad to leave but hopefully not goodbye, but see you again!
Great venue, exactly as advertised. Lovely people who worked hard to ensure we had a great time. Overall a great experience.
Thank you for a relaxing and memorable week. We loved the tranquillity of the villa and everyone was hospitable and kind. The accommodation was special. It was lovely having our own separate unit as opposed to a hotel room! The staff were charming and helpful, without exception. We would like to particularly mention Joanne, whose interest and close involvement was special. Also, Leo our driver, who was interesting and full of good recommendations. We found the ‘personal touch’ of Simpson Travel special and appreciated their good communication. We will use you again!
A wonderful week – lots of lengths in the pool, lazing in the sunshine. Special thanks to Joanne, Nikos and the team for their wonderful hospitality!
Revisiting Arosmari after our previous visit in 2021. Lovely week spent in peaceful surroundings of Vamos. Anywhere we went we experienced hospitality and friendliness. Arosmari staff and accommodation exceptional. Thank you everyone at Arosmari for a relaxing and enjoyable week.
Our fifth visit in eight years to Arosmari, which really says it all and our love of this oasis of tranquillity and the surrounding village continues to deepen further at every visit. As always, wonderful people to look after us and thanks to them all for making this another memorable and special time in our year – we can’t help feeling we’ll be back for yet another visit.
It was probably the easiest holiday I have been on in years - flights, car, hotel all booked by Simpson and all as requested. The pre-departure paperwork was excellent - and comforting! It all worked like a dream. A really super experience.
We’ve had a wonderful week; many thanks to Joanne and Thanassis for all their help and advice. We loved the walks and tavernas. Aptera is so worth a visit – only 20 minutes away and stunning views even if old antiquities don’t appeal! We hope to return.
We have had another wonderful week at Arosmari. The weather has been absolutely fantastic so we have been extremely lucky. We really enjoyed the musical evening, the garden and also the wonderful concert in the village. Joanne has been so helpful especially with the medical problem that one of us had and she kindly took us to the medical centre. The food has been really good and the breakfasts served by Ruby and Natalia have been done with grace and efficiency. We look forward to returning next year. Particular thanks to Sue, Thanassis and Joanne – who was magnificent.
Lovely week here in Fennel Cottage. Just what we needed. Loved having the oasis of Arosmari to come back to after a morning of exploring. Just the right blend of community and solitude. Loved the concert in the amphitheatre. What a treat. All the staff were lovely and available but never intrusive. Thank you.
We have had an enjoyable and relaxing time with some great memories of our days out and spending time here. Thanks to everyone for their warm hospitality and we look forward to our next Simpson holiday, which we have already booked.
Joanne and her staff were excellent. Owner Nicos also.
Our fifth visit in eight years probably says all we need to but, suffice to say, we now feel almost a sense of returning home each time we come back. Arosmari is, quite simply, balm for the soul, its peaceful and delightful surroundings an oasis in our troubled world while people who seem much more like friends than staff provide all the support you might need, always accompanied with smiles and laughter. Without tempting fate, we can't help feeling a sixth visit is probably inevitable!
We enjoyed a very relaxing holiday at Arosmari Village Hotel. The accommodation was very comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely pool and quiet location with great breakfasts.
I went to Crete having been diagnosed with a medical problem which meant I was non weight-bearing and on crutches. The Simpson Travel staff could not have been more helpful and kind turning what could have been a disaster into an excellent stay.
Our cottage was wonderful, really light and airy with some outdoor private spaces. The pool was magnificent and wonderful way to start our day. We managed to experience the weekly concert & beautiful buffet, the Hammam and massage … we definitely took advantage. As to be expected Joanne and the rest of the team were really helpful, special mention to Thanassis and two lovely ladies who delivered an incredible breakfast. We always try to bring home a reminder of our holiday and I was delighted to discover there was an artisan goat/sheep bell maker nearby to enable us to bring home Crete and Thalori. Joanne and Thanassis gave us some driving instructions. We drove around an amazing gorge to get there, superb views and not a sign of another car on the road. We finally discovered this tiny workshop where of course I purchased a bell (!) we were then invited into their home to share raki (it was very early in the morning!!!) and local delicacies that his wife had made. What hospitality.
Simpson organised special arrangements at Gatwick and Chania airports after I informed them that I had just come out of plaster after a fractured wrist and ankle. This meant an easy and stress-free journey. From the moment we arrived, we were offered a welcome drink and shown around the beautiful gardens, and we knew this would be a relaxing holiday. The house, Lavender, was spotlessly clean and did not disappoint. All the staff were friendly and helpful, particularly our knowledgeable concierge, Joanne. The musical evening in the garden followed by an excellent buffet was magical.
Wonderful location – delightful staff – couldn’t do enough to help two oldies on crutches! Thank you so much for making it a memorable stay.
Arosmari is a charming hotel - rustic but with luxurious touches, especially since the refurbishment, and real attention to detail. The staff at the hotel were excellent.
Great holiday in an amazing hotel, Lavender Cottage is perfect. Very relaxed atmosphere, great breakfasts and ambience, helpful and friendly staff. Don’t miss the weekly concert.
A memorable stay in this very special place. Thank you to all the staff for their warmth and hospitality who helped to make a restful, relaxed holiday. Special thanks to Joanne, whose knowledge of the area helped enormously. The two musical evenings were magical.
Joanne was so helpful and friendly and Thanassis was such a gentleman and a true ambassador to Crete, we had such a relaxing time at Arosmari and were given great guidance of the surrounding area. Thanks Simpson Travel, we have already booked a 3 week holiday with you for next year.
We have had a wonderful week at Arosmari. Arugula has been the perfect place for us to create more special memories to add to our many years of friendship. We have had a time of rest and relaxation and the opportunity to explore the ‘road less travelled’. We enjoyed the delicious Cretan food. We were sorry the rain brought the music evening in the gardens to an abrupt end as it was clearly going to be fantastic. We will have to come back! Thank you to Joanne and the whole Arosmari team for making our stay so memorable.
Thank you to the whole Arosmari team for a lovely stay in Mint Cottage. This is a lovely relaxing place with sunny and shady spots to relax in and a real feeling of living in a Cretan village.
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. You really have been terrific supports and helped us all feel at ease in Arosmari, Vamos and Crete. This has been my first Mediterranean holiday without my children – what better way to start this next chapter of my holidaying life. Thank you for so much for all you have done to make this stay in Vamos memorable.
Wonderful place. Peaceful. Relaxing. The village is the perfectly authentic Greek experience. The hotel is sublime. Joanne was a wonderful host, kind and attentive. I’m coming back!
I feel blessed to have stayed in Lavender Cottage on my first visit to Crete. My thanks to the wonderful staff, the comfortable bed, all the music arrangements and the décor, particularly the old photos of the family in the dining and seating areas. Delicious breakfasts and much more. Thank you to all.
We will be looking at your brochure for next year as the whole 'Simpson' experience was excellent. We felt cosseted in the nicest way-safe and well looked after.
Unfortunately through a miscalculation we missed out flight home but Sarah at Chania Airport was completely wonderful helping us and providing us with options and tremendous support booking a new flight - she deserves a Gold Star.
Arosmari is a delightful place of peace and calm. Solid and cool accommodation and excellent staff. A fantastically relaxing place to go and an ideal place from which to explore the magic of Crete.
We’ve had a wonderful time at Arosmari. Lovely cottage and gardens. Pool and facilities were superb. Many thanks to Joanne and the team for making the stay memorable. It flew by far too quickly.
Why do we keep coming back? Apart from the Covid years we have been here on and off since 2016 and stayed in a number of the cottages, but were delighted to be upgraded to the Big House this trip by Joanne and Susan. We came back because it is a place of calm, quietude and peace. A place where you can recharge your batteries, engage with other guests, be well fed and looked after by Ruby, Natalia, Nikos and Maria and our wonderful concierge, Joanne, ably assisted by the enthusiastic Thanassis. Finally, thank you Mr Simpson for having the courage and vision to restart after ‘Simply’ and creating a fantastic holiday business that appeals to folk like us who have travelled the Greek islands in our younger years and well, let’s say are now ‘getting on a bit’. Your superb staff are a credit to you and always a pleasure to deal with.
Our first stay at Arosmari Hotel, Oregano cottage was a relaxing experience. All the staff were polite, attentive, and efficient. Joanne, the Simpson rep, was always available and ready with answers to any questions. We were fortunate to have been there during Music Week and attended a number of concerts organised by the hotel and Simpson. There were a number of delightful restaurants and bars on the road into the village and the village itself was a 10-minute walk.
First time to Crete and Arosmari. Incredibly tranquil, gorgeous pool and extremely friendly staff. Beautiful spot – will miss it.
Arosmari was a haven of peace and tranquillity, quiet and unobtrusive, when we visited in September. The staff were helpful, unobtrusive and friendly. The pool was spot on and the area offered a relaxing environment with an easy walk into Vamos town. Rosemary Cottage offered up a glorious view of the White Mountains (when the weather was clear).
Arosmari is a little piece of paradise. Joanne is a super hostess with lots of tips and nothing is too much trouble. The walks around Vamos are interesting and maps easy to follow. But mainly indulged ourselves lazing by the pool with massages and hammams as extra treats. What a fantastic place!
A lovely place to relax and the most gracious, helpful of staff. If you get a chance to listen to the local orchestra, do – you’ll be very pleasantly surprised. Fantastic.
Our second stay at Arosmari! Another wonderful, relaxing week. A fantastic location which has the perfect blend of being able to chill out by the pool whilst being close to everything should we wish to explore. The concert in Vamos was a particular delight! We will be back.
We have had a super week at Arosmari. The key has been Jonathan, Myriam and Marco Peat. The insights about our surroundings, its history, the botanical knowledge, the personal care for our group has been outstanding. Myriams’s picnics are sublime. We would not be here if it were not for Jonathan. We loved Arosmari, particularly the flowers everywhere, especially in the vases. The staff have been excellent and the breakfasts lovely. We had a musical evening in the garden that was very special.
The Arosmari Village Hotel is just lovely in every way. We adored our cottage, the large pool, and breakfast every day was simply delicious - so much choice! Vamos is a great base in itself but also in terms of its proximity to beaches, other towns and of course Chania. We were lucky enough to see the Vamos orchestra performing - a wonderful evening under the pine trees. Many thanks to Joanne for looking after us so well and also all of the other staff at Arosmari. Our holiday was perfect and we will definitely be back!
Wow – what a wonderful week. Joanne – thank you for everything, nothing was too much trouble. The village and pool were magical and the experience of visiting Arosmari will live long in our memories.
Arosmari is a beautiful location and the addition of a yoga space to the property has made it very special place. Our rep Jo was wonderful and Thanassis was also great both were very knowledgeable, helpful & efficient.
Our second time staying here and everyone has made us very welcome. We’ve enjoyed our delicious breakfasts before setting off on our adventures around this beautiful island with Jonathan Peat. Thank you to Nikos, Joanne and all the Arosmari staff.
Arosmari is a lovely, friendly and homely place where all the staff are so kind and helpful, particularly Joanne and Thanasis (not sure if I’ve spelt that correctly). A super holiday in the delightful village of Vamos.
Our second time staying here and everyone has made us very welcome. We’ve enjoyed our delicious breakfasts before setting off on our adventures around this beautiful island with Jonathan Peat. Thank you to Nikos, Joanne and all the Arosmari staff.
Arosmari is a very civilised base for a holiday in Western Crete. It is made special by the lovely gardens and pool, and the old renovated buildings. Nothing jars. It is also great to have an easy walk to Vamos for meals, shopping and coffee and for walks. Joanne was very helpful and friendly.
Amazing - went last year and have booked for next year. Everything was perfect especially Joanne who was" over and above" really hoping she'll be there again next year!
The accommodation and the wonderful team really made this holiday very special. Jo Orton was the perfect host and made our time at Arosmari truly relaxing.
Our first time at Arosmari and a week is definitely not long enough! Such a peaceful place in a beautiful setting. With an easy walk into town for eating and drinking. Lavender had everything we needed and the staff have been lovely.
Superb support and care from Joanne, our concierge. She took me to the medical centre, stayed with me throughout, supplied herbal remedies and generally looked after me through a nasty respiratory virus. She was absolutely ace - don’t let her go!
This is our second time at Arosmari. We had to come back, this time for two weeks just to do all the things we didn’t have time for last year.
Absolutely idyllic. We should love to come back. Every little detail of the houses and their surroundings has been so carefully thought out – perfect.
Excellent accommodation and location.Traditional Greek village with good choice of tavernas within walking distance. Good detailed walk book.Beautiful swimming pool.
Have had an amazing stay here. Loved our little house and great views of the mountains.
Joanne and the team at Arosmari were exceptional. Friendly, knowledgeable and more than helpful. We enjoyed our holiday very much thanks to the attention to detail from the minute we arrived. We would not hesitate to travel with Simpsons again.
Once again, a delightful week in perfect surroundings with just the right level of professional organisation behind the scenes. Looking forward to a return visit.
A very good week at Arosmari with wall-to-wall sunshine and heat – a little too hot for us so very glad of the aircon! Beautiful view of the White Mountains from our balcony and the gardens are delightful. Thank you for the concert in the garden – such a memorable moment in the week. We have had excellent food everywhere. The botanical park is well worth a visit and the drive across the mountains to take the boat to Loutro is a must!
We have had a wonderful stay here – everyone very welcoming, Joanne and all the staff have been super helpful. All the guests mixed well and it was so lovely to meet new people. Everything is so relaxing – I’m sure we will be back.
This was our fifth visit to Arosmari, which speaks for itself. It feels like coming home and we have been very well looked after By Nikos, Joanne, Thanassis, Ruby, Natalia and the rest of the team.
Another lovely holiday with Simpson Travel! We have been so well looked after by Joanne, Thanassis and Nikos and their tireless team of helpers. Painting lessons with Francesca Harrison enhanced our stay and we have enjoyed revisiting Vamos and the surrounding area.
We have had a great time here for our first time in Crete. Arosmari is a lovely setting, the gardens are beautiful as is the pool. The breakfasts are delicious and too much choice on the buffet. The staff have all been really friendly and helpful and, of course, as ever an excellent Simpson rep, Joanne. The local restaurants are all good and we ate at several. We’d like to return for our 40th wedding anniversary in 2025!
A special time in a special place. Terrific walks with Jonathan and Marco. We have all got to know Crete better. Arosmari is a great place to say. Food and breakfast beautifully prepared, pool great for a bit of exercise and the accommodation and gardens exceptional. We have all enjoyed it very much.
A fabulous ‘girlie’ trip (we’re all old!) – four of us. It’s been the perfect holiday for relaxation and laughter. It’s my second time at Arosmari and it’s as lovely as last time. It really is a slice of paradise. Fabulous breakfasts, thanks to Ruby and Natalia. Thanks to Thanassis for carrying our very heavy suitcases. Joanne looked after us beautifully.
Another wonderful stay. Beautiful spring flowers everywhere with birdsong all day and wafts of orange blossom. We got in lots of wonderful walks around fields and villages that we may not have done had it been a lot hotter. This is definitely a place to come again.
Sad to be leaving after what seems a very short time. The hotel is beautiful, the people very friendly and the breakfasts enjoyable. We’ve been on a walking trip with Jonathan Peat and can highly recommend it. We’ve explored the people and places of Crete with him. The lunches organised by Jonathan and Myriam were designed to give us a taste of Cretan food and they succeeded. Thank you to Joanna and the rest of the Simpson Travel team.
Seven years since our last week here, hopefully it won’t be so long until our next visit. Sorry to leave such a special place. I feel completely restored after a difficult time. Thank you for your gentle, friendly service, delicious food and lovely gardens. We did Walk 5 in the local walks book three times, really enjoyed it. Superb tavernas en route. Beautiful place, great company, just perfect.
Expect it has been said before, but lovely place – cottage, pool, gardens, walks and company, all brilliant. Very welcoming to the single traveller and a top-notch person looking after us all. Thank you, Simpson! More, please!
Thank you to everyone at Arosmari. We have had a wonderful week. Excellent concert and the food was delicious.
We have had a great time at Fennel Cottage. The hotel is a gem of a place and we are very glad we followed up the recommendations from our friends to visit. Nothing has been too much trouble for all the staff who work here, and they have all contributed to making this memorable week. We look forward to returning.
We have had a wonderful week, with a combination of Arosmari and Jonathan Peat’s walks. Everyone has been helpful and very friendly, enabling us to share this beautiful villa for a week or so. I’m looking forward to returning shortly the for the Bridge week.
We had a lovely week thanks to the very friendly staff. The painting classes by Francesca Harrison were a revelation. As total beginners we are now ‘hooked’. The peace and quiet of the hotel/village grounds helped make it a relaxing holiday.
My first trip with Simpson Travel (after a sadly cancelled booking blown out by COVID) I was knocked out by the general standard of their offering and in particular, their attention to detail. As a single traveller, I was made to feel welcome and was easily involved with group outings (wine tasting to be recommended) whilst being left alone to enjoy the time out I had looked forward to.. Their programme on the week I was at Arosmari (Flavours of Crete) balanced just the right amount of participation, interest and time out. All in all, beautiful surroundings and nothing too much trouble for the Simpson team. Certainly ticked all my boxes. Thank you - I shall be returning.
Our first time here and hopefully it won’t the last! A wonderful week of great breakfasts, beautiful surroundings and of course the painting mornings with Francesca Harrison. Thanks to all at Arosmari for their good service and help.
We have had a wonderful week in Fennel Cottage. It was a painting week and we became so absorbed in watercolour art with Francesca that we hardly noticed the poor weather. Everyone, especially Joanne, has been helpful and thoughtful and the breakfasts were fantastic. Our thanks to everyone at Arosmari for making it a holiday to remember. We hope to return soon.
It was a painting week and we happily spent most mornings learning how to paint after a delicious and varied breakfast. The fantastic views enticed us to explore the surrounding area either on foot or in the car. However an afternoon relaxing by the pool was a very good alternative. Joanne, the concierge, was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Really enjoyed the week at Arosmari – walking with our group from Blackheath, London. Wonderful guiding from Jonathan Peat with Marco and lovely to meet Myriam for the first time. The weather might have been a little warmer but it didn’t stop the walking. Lovely musical evening – thank you Joanne and all the team.
Our first visit to Arosmari – accommodation superb, staff wonderful and some great ‘foodie week’ gatherings – great fun. So many walks in the area – though not many flat ones! Relaxing week – thank you to all the team.
We had a wonderful week painting in the mornings with some fun guests and guidance from Francesca. The village is absolutely charming and the staff very helpful. Great breakfast every morning in beautiful surroundings. We would highly recommend coming here and hope to come back next year.
Have had an amazing stay here. Loved our little house and great views of the mountains. Highlights: walking, visit to Loutro and the botanical walk we booked with the tourist office. Amazing. It took us right up into the mountains, looking at flowers and visiting an organic farm. Peace, quiet and a traditional Greek village. Thank you for a lovely holiday at Arosmari hotel, it is such a beautiful peaceful setting, the gardens are amazing with a large inviting swimming pool. The activities supplied with our food themed week were very interesting and entertaining. Your rep Joanne and the other two ladies looked after us very well.
Our holiday was perfect. The complete process from booking to our most enjoyable stay could not have been organised any better.
We have loved our stay in Thyme Cottage and have really enjoyed the Cretan countryside with the spring flowers and White Mountains towering in the background. Our walks with Jonathan Peat have been fabulous and we are leaving a lot fatter! Thank you to Nikos, who has kept us warm with his fire every night in the lovely garden - also, the concert night. Joanne and the staff have been most helpful and made our stay in this lovely part of the world very special.
This is our second holiday with Simpson Trael and it won’t be our last – first class service from everyone. Arosmari is beautifully restored and a very relaxing place to stay. Fantastic breakfasts, which kept us going for most of the day. Many thanks to Joanne for all her help.
Had a lovely week and well looked after by Joanne, Ruby and Nathalie. The walks around Vamos were excellent. Enjoyed the Imbros Gorge. Just generally, a lovely holiday. Attention to detail by Nikos and his team was great.
Wow! What a way to spend a week! Great company in perfect settings and a team of exceptional talent and knowledge – thank you one and all.
Wonderful holiday. Lovely village with excellent local restaurant and others within in short distance by car. Very relaxed, calm and an enjoyable place to visit in beautiful countryside with lots of local walks to choose from. Beautiful beach is also within easy reach by car in the village of Kalyves.
This hotel was excellently located in the lovely village of Vamos, quiet where we stayed but close to local restaurant which was local cuisine but of good quality. The staff at the hotel were charming and helpful. Our Simpson reps could not have been more helpful - Alexia and Susan. Many thanks to them both.
Our 10th Simpson holiday, but the first at one of their hotels. It certainly equalled the exceptional service we have always received on our previous holidays.
Our fourth visit to Arosmari was very enjoyable. There was a warm welcome from the concierge and staff on arrival and a friendly atmosphere throughout our two week stay. The music concerts organised by Nicos were excelent. We will return.
Our second holiday with Simpson Travel and all I can say is - why would we go with anyone else? From start to finish the experience was excellent. The Arosmari Hotel in Crete was beautiful so relaxing and nothing was too much trouble for the hotel staff and Simpson rep Susan. We travelled around the area seeing some amazing sights and would definitely return. Thank you Simpson!

Arosmari is a wonderful holiday destination. The grounds are beautifully kept and so relaxing to spend time in. The pool, reading room, relaxing areas, the mini-amphitheatre are all great. The breakfasts were superb, and the service from Stella and Ruby was second to none. Susan, our concierge this week, was excellent: friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable. We stayed in Oregano, which was very comfortable and well-equipped.
Simpsons is an excellent travel company. Staff in UK and Crete are available and informative. Everything we needed was taken care of swiftly and efficiently. For a first trip abroad in 3 years it was good to have this security. The quality of the accommodation was excellent too, it felt authentic but with all the mod cons we now expect. The view over the white mountains was wonderful and we enjoyed sitting on our terrace each morning and evening looking across to them. The cottages and the surrounding gardens were lovely and it was close enough to the village to eat out and buy food from the local shops. Breakfast was delicious , so much choice and all freshly cooked. The pool was big enough to swim in properly and there were always enough sun loungers. Having a book of local walks meant I felt comfortable walking on my own as each walk ( with map) was well described. This really is a very special place. Thank you.
Our fourth visit to Arosmari and, in the current somewhat worrying and ever-changing world, it was wonderful to slip back into the sanctuary provided by such tranquil and beautiful surroundings. Almost nothing had changed, Ruby's breakfasts aided by a delightful Stella, Sotiris's helpfulness and spirit of fun, Nikos's magical music night all the same as we remembered while the new face of Simpson at Arosmari, Alexia, was an absolute delight, so helpful, organised and nothing ever too much trouble. Happily, Susan was still very much in evidence too so great to be able to catch up with her again as well. We cannot recommend highly enough the organised trip through Simpson Travel to walk the Samaria Gorge with the excellent Jonathan as our guide – it was simply wonderful. The beaming smiles on our faces as we sped back in the water taxi at the end to meet Miriam and the minibus to take us all home summed up the sense of achievement we all felt, even if our walking was a little suspect for a couple of days afterwards! Once again, another holiday where we felt always in the company of friends and have no doubt we shall be back again.
The staff were wonderful. The owner even went out to buy a TV for the queen's funeral. Breakfast was a dream, Ruby's breakfasts are legendary. The gardens and pool are beautifully kept by Sotoris. All in all a holiday to remember, just a shame I only booked one week. We will not make that mistake next time.
Fantastic accommodation, great location, knowledgeable and friendly staff. With views of the white mountains and wonderful choice of breakfast goodies on the terrace, it sets you up perfectly for a relaxing day, either exploring the local area or enjoying the gardens and the pool.
Great holiday again 9th time with Simpson. Will look forward to holidaying again with you.

Haven't booked a package holiday for years but a recommendation for Simpson Travel has changed my mind. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience from booking to the actual holiday. Excellent location in Arosmari Village Hotel, Crete with great service from the whole team.
We simply cannot fault the level of service offered by Simpson Travel. Once again we were lucky enough to have been able to return to Arosmari and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The staff are wonderful and always ensure that everyone is so well looked after. We cannot recommend it highly enough!
We both had a thoroughly relaxing holiday. Arosmari was everything we hoped it would be and have already booked for June 2023.
This was my second visit to Arosmari and it just gets better and better!
A lovely rustic, relaxing place to stay with great staff, service and excellent food. Alexia went over and above to make our experience wonderful. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the owner was very welcoming.
I can't praise Arosmari, its team and its accommodation and facilities highly enough. The accommodation was perfect, the location exquisite and the staff who looked after us were a joy to spend time with - knowledgable, helpful and forever going the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. I still dream about the incredible breakfasts with home made treats and a range of local produce. Our trips to Kournas Lake and Chania were a delight and sitting under the olive trees, in gardens perfectly tended by Sotiris, with an occasional foray into the hamam or lovely pool was exactly what I needed to relax after a busy few months.
Perfect hotel for R&R or exploring Crete depending on your needs. We could not fault it and found it charming and very comfortable. We will probably return. In particular we would like to thank Alexia, the rep, who did an outstanding job. She was exceptional and a real credit to Simpsons.
Our second time at Arosmari, and it was a magical as the first. Our whole family (23-59 years) absolutely loves the peaceful, welcoming charm of complex and the infectiously relaxed and friendly vibe of the village Vamos. Arosmari really is a hidden gem - and we love it.
Arosmari is unique. Excellent facilities and a very friendly, helpful team. Nothing is too much trouble. Our accommodation was spacious and traditionally Cretan. Judging by the number of repeat bookings Arosmari has a certain magic which draws you back year after year.
All I can say is that I can’t wait to go back - I’ve put my name down for next year. An absolutely wonderful experience and heavenly customer service. Thank you so much.
What can I say, other than simply amazing! If you want to really experience Crete then Jonathan offers you the most authentic journey through his walking tours. Full of knowledge, walking with Jonathan is both a history lesson and a spiritual experience being one with natures beauty. Would follow Jonathan wherever he walked and can’t wait to return!
Arosmari Village is an exceptional location, with Vamos and the surrounding area offering plenty to immerse yourself in rural Crete.
An incredible two weeks spent at Arosmari, the team here have been so welcoming and thoughtful. The two walking tours with Jonathan and Myriam were a highlight of our holiday and highly recommend for anyone looking to experience the magical side of Crete. Finally we are so grateful to Alexia and her recommendations, Salis in Chania was superb and we loved Marathi Beach. Two weeks didn’t feel long enough so we’ll be back!
Visited the Arosmari Hotel for our 25th wedding anniversary. It exceeded our expectations. The setting, accommodation lovely food and facilities are second to none. The staff are excellent. I cannot fault any of them a special mention to Alexia for her attention to detail in everything and her kind sunny outlook. She is a true gem. Not to say the other staff aren’t because they all are. We both agree that this is the best holiday we have had and we hope to return soon. Will certainly travel with Simpson again when we are able.
Our third trip to Arosmari. That probably says it all and it was as lovely, peaceful and restorative as ever. The view of the White Mountains is a daily treat. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and full of interesting things to do and see.
A wonderful stay; Vamos is lovely as a a base to explore on foot and by car. Arosmari is so comfortable and peaceful. Charming service from everyone.
What a delightful place within easy reach of some decent eateries, nice rambles and easy drives to other places, we loved Arosmari! The view of the White Mountains and listening to birdsong while eating breakfast was a real tonic. The friendliness and helpfulness of every staff member made it a very comfortable place to stay. Our first Simpson holiday. It may not be our last :).
This is the first time in many years that we have booked a package holiday in Europe as we usually make our own arrangements. We certainly will book a Simpson package again. Everything was so easy and all the staff we met delightful and helpful with great tips about where to find the best beaches, restaurants etc. We loved the charm of Arosmari and would return. It gives the best of both worlds - the privacy and independence of your own cottage but with daily housekeeping, a wonderful breakfast and beautiful pool and garden with plenty room for everyone. The evening concert was an absolute treat as was the dinner afterwards.
Arosmari village exceeded our expectations. We really felt we had died and gone to heaven when walking through the beautiful gardens to breakfast with the view of snow on the mountains and the perfume of roses and honeysuckle. We could have stayed there all day every day but for the other lovely places to visit on the area. We'll be back!
Arosmari is a wonderful location and we had a superb holiday. Breakfasts were amazing and views of the snow capped mountains were amazing. Staff were lovely and so attentive, and Alexia was the perfect hostess.
We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay in Fennel Cottage. We loved the semi rural location on the outskirts of the village with just a short walk to a choice of tavernas for an evening meal. The ability to walk directly out into the beautiful countryside was an added bonus. The pool, gardens and breakfast area were all delightful. Alexia Theodorakis was a charming and helpful host backed up by warm and friendly staff.
Arosmari is a rare combination which offers everything we hoped for and more. It is an amazing characterful setting which tempted us too often to stay and enjoy the company and luxury in the shade. We particularly enjoyed the social side of Arosmari and the options to eat out in Vamos or cook for ourselves in the cottage and eat privately in the shade outside. The Simpson service was stand-out making it the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. We were completely smitten and have already reserved for next year because there is a lot we have yet to see.
We have now had four holidays with Simpson Travel, three of them at Arosmari in Crete. As we pulled up at the accommodation in our included hired car, we were greeted like old friends, grins and handshakes, hugs and a big welcome. It was just lovely. After a particularly gruelling day of travel (not Simpson’s fault at all), the welcome and the magic of Arosmari washed over us and, within an instance, everything was okay in the world. We will definitely return there again. We have been so impressed with the accommodation, the service, the attention to detail and the unfailing helpfulness of the Simpson staff both home and abroad. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They are head and shoulders above any holiday company I have travelled with before and we are already in the process of choosing our next holiday with Simpson. If only all companies were as good as this.
Once again, we had a lovely, relaxing time at Arosmari Hotel. Everything was perfect, and the team all worked together to make sure guests were comfortable. Staff were always available and welcoming.
Arosmari is a lovely set up thanks to Nikos, Susan, Sotiris and Ruby. We were lucky to have beautiful walks, hiking in the Samaria Gorge, a poetry evening and a concert.
Thank you to everyone. We came as a last minute swap due to Covid issues at our previously booked destination. Fate! It’s been lovely. We’ve been well looked after by Susan and the whole team. The massage was an extra treat. It’s a lovely relaxing atmosphere, everyone has sufficient space, but is able to socialise if desired. Short walk to local tavernas. Vamos is ‘non-touristy’ and well placed to visit other villages/towns. The ‘Discover Vamos On Foot’ guide was particularly helpful. Thank you again for a lovely relaxing holiday.
Lovely cottage and grounds and the weather was very kind too! Ruins at Aptera certainly worth the short trip and in a stunning location. For longer forays would recommend Frangokastelo on the south coast and Falasarna on the west. Good walking locally and a warm welcome everywhere. Our thanks to all the team.
Very many thanks to you, Susan, and all the team with Nikos, for looking after us so well. For Piers and me, as first timers to Greece, let alone Crete, it was a lovely experience in a beautiful location. Hospitality, cuisine, village life and wonderful walks all made for an enjoyable and relaxing week. Thank you all at Simpson Travel.
We have loved being at Arosmari. It is one of the prettiest and most peaceful ‘hotels’ we have ever been to (and we are well travelled!). Thank you to Susan, Sotiris and Simpson for their excellent help with everything and especially directions! Thank you to Ruby for outstanding breakfasts. We have thoroughly enjoyed the flexibility and relaxed attitude of Arosmari and the staff. We will definitely be back again and again and again?! We have explored Aptera (fascinating), Theriso through the Gorge, Chora Sfakia and the ferry to lovely Loutro, Knossos and the wonderful archaeological museum in Heraklion, Chania, Maleme, Souda and the moving Allied and German cemeteries and there is still more to discover. Thank you again.
Our fourth trip too Arosmari. As ever the welcome from Susan and Sotiris, Ruby and Nikos was warm and Susan particularly outdid herself tracking down rose petal jam. Great meals at Blaniasifi in the village. I attended the Cretan cooking course run by Koula which was terrific and inspiring. Lovely walking locally too. I am sure we will be back.
Our third time here. We shall be back! Lovely…as always and nothing was too much trouble for Susan and the Arosmari team.
We really enjoyed our stay at Arosmari. The hospitality was great and the staff lovely. We enjoyed eating in Vamos and walking in the local area. We loved returning each day to relax by the pool in the gardens and breakfast was a real treat. Many thanks to Susan, Sotiris, Ruby and all the staff.
We had a great holiday at Arosmari. It was our second holiday there and our third with Simpson. Last year, at the height of the pandemic, Simpson went above and beyond to help us have a long-awaited family holiday in Mallorca, showing initiative and flexibility to ensure things went well. It is a company we trust. At Arosmari, the team of Susan, Sotiris, Ruby and Nikos were as wonderful as we remembered from our first visit. They are knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and efficient and went out of their way to make our holiday special. Thoroughly recommended.
Thank you all for your warm welcome and hospitality. A week is never long enough to explore such a wonderful island but we did our best – from the spectacular ruins at Knossos and the archaeological museum at Heraklion, to the aromatic switch-back roads towards the Imbus Gorge. Susan’s recommendation meant we at the tastiest lunches and swam in the sparkling seas. We love the Venetian architecture at Chania and Rethymnon and when the wind was too strong to visit the beach we drove inland to the ruins at Aptera. There is a strong sense of community in Vamos, it’s a special village and we were lucky to visit and always made to feel welcome.
Thank you for a wonderful week. Highlights include turtles and swimming at Lake Kournas, wonderful meals – the simple ones often the best. Feeling sun-kissed and return to return to the UK summer of cloudy days! Thank you for a wonderful time.
We have really enjoyed Crete hidden away in Vamos. Arosmari is an unusual pretty place. Staff and breakfast – excellent. Hope to return.
Thank you to all. We have been made to feel very welcome. Susan has been incredible – always on hand to help and advise on where to go. The breakfasts have been amazing – freshly cooked by Ruby. We have loved staying here and seeing Crete. The massage Susan arranged was fabulous and totally restoring for us both. Thank you for a lovely week.
We had a lovely week at Arosmari in Vamos. Susan, Sotiris, Ruby and Nicos made sure that we were really well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. The village is great, with plenty of tavernas and cafés within short walking distance. The hotel is made up of 10 cottages and are really lovely and quiet amongst beautiful grounds and provide an ideal place for peace and quiet. We stayed in the largest, overlooking the pool, and it was really fabulous. We would highly recommend Simpson for their quality of service and can’t wait for our next holiday with Simpson next year in Corfu.
We had a lovely time at Arosmari. Nikos, Susan, Sotiris and Ruby made sure that we were really well looked after in every day. The village is great, with plenty of tavernas and cafés within short walking distance. The hotel provides a safe, quiet haven. We can't wait to return!
We’ve had a lovely time. Days spent exploring the area and late afternoon spent enjoying the pool and gardens. We’ve been struck by the friendliness of the villa and the tranquillity of Arosmari. The staff have been fantastic – thank you.
We were here in 2017 and the same applies – really great place and lovely people. Very difficult not to eat too much. Botanical Gardens well worth a visit and the beach at Almerida is very pleasant and convenient.
Lovely relaxing stay. Beautiful surroundings with views of The White Mountains. Friendly, helpful staff. Susan is a mine of information and always available for help and advice. If you get the time, definitely have a massage from Stelios. Sotiris at breakfast is hilarious but always happy to help despite what he says! Thanks to everyone at Simpson for a really enjoyable stay.
What a fantastic place! We both had a lovely relaxing time. Thank you all for looking after us so well. We really look forward to coming back!
This is our second time at Arosmari – it’s like being on retreat. The beautiful gardens and the space ensure that you never feel hemmed in or overwhelmed by tourists. The area is lovely – a friendly villa with good places to eat. Susan, Sotiris and Ruby are an exceptional team. Absolutely nothing is too much trouble for them. Nikos has built a place of beauty and peace. We have already booked to come back next year. That says it all!
We have recently returned from a wonderful holiday at Arosmari. As ever it worked its magic: the accommodation, the setting and the Simpson Team is superb. Travel to and fro was fine and the additional admin associated with Covid was frankly minimal and well worth it. Flights were on time and there were no hold-ups/additional time spent at airports on either journey. We followed the Covid-19 testing guidance and information helpfully provided by Simpson with our booking information. As such we were able to keep the expense of the necessary testing to a minimum and the process proved to be straightforward. I am so glad that we went and I encourage others to travel. Thank you Simpson, and thank you to the team at Arosmari.
Delighted we could come back in this Covid-19 year! As always Arosmari is a retreat in the best sense. Susan was a lovely rep who went beyond the call of duty. I hope we will be back.
We loved Arosmari. The cottages are lovely and really well equipped. The local village is typically Greek and not at all touristy, but totally authentic. The standout though here has to be the staff – all absolutely fantastic without exception and nothing was too much trouble. Susan deserves a special mention, she is SO good at her job and is such an asset to the company.
Arosmari is a perfect retreat on a beautiful island. We were made very welcome from the time we arrived with Susan and Sotiris being most helpful and available at all times to deal with any query, however small. Also the breakfasts, from the continental to the cooked prepared by Ruby, were excellent served in a very nice area of the hotel. We would thoroughly recommend Arosmari to anyone who is looking to stay in a hotel with a difference – stone cottages set in private gardens – private but never alone as there is always someone there to help with ideas should you wish to travel around or just relax by the pool.
This is the first time we have used Simpson Travel, we found the whole process very easy and efficient. All the staff we spoke to or met were friendly and knowledgeable. We would have no hesitation in recommending Simpson Travel or using them again.
Arosmari is a gem. The location is superb with an interesting village and surrounding area. Simpson should be proud of their superb staff, especially Susan and Sotiris, who always went the extra mile for us. The food was far superior to the other Simpson Hotel where we spent a week – Ruby's breakfasts were truly outstanding and the music night and dinner were equally memorable. A brilliant stay from start to finish.
Arosmari Village Hotel is set in an idyllic location and the gardens and pool are so beautiful. The staff were amazing and so welcoming; they made you feel like family! Susan had great knowledge and was very friendly.
We were impressed by the properties and areas we went to – we experienced a wonderful natural Crete which we thought no longer existed. Having visited a few package-holiday destinations during our two weeks, we really appreciated where we were staying.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week’s holiday at Arosmari staying in Fennel Cottage and our friends in Mint. The recommendations of things to do and places to visit by Susan, who was always on hand at breakfast, was very informative and exceeded our expectations, especially the Seven Souls Beach Bar which we visited on numerous occasions. The breakfast was expertly cooked by Ruby (so much choice) and served with a continuous smile from Sotiris who also acted as gardener, maintenance man and was just a very helpful all-rounder. We did the cookery experience with Mrs Koula who was very knowledgeable and we got to keep the apron and the recipes of the fantastic meal we made. Overall, Arosmari Village was a wonderful holiday destination.
We are so happy to have experienced the delights of this beautiful spot. As soon as you enter Arosmari you feel a wonderful sense of calm. Many thanks to Susan for all her local knowledge and advice as well as Sotiris and Ruby for quality breakfasts every day. Thank you for making our stay so special.
Arosmari is a tranquil refuge, far from the stresses of everyday life. A really great concept of converted traditional, and well appointed, character houses in a rural village that could almost be lost in a time warp. Susan, the Simpson concierge, was smashing and did a great job. Likewise Sotiris, who felt like an old friend within two minutes of meeting him. Ruby always produced some lovely food at breakfast and lunch, her Dakos is just mouth-watering. The rest of the staff were polite, always had a smile and worked hard. With a few bars and tavernas within a five-minute walk and other villages a short drive away we wanted for nothing. Great holiday.
Thank you for a wonderful two weeks. It has been a real treat from beginning to end. The wonderful location, the pool and weather. Sotiris – thank you for all your care and devotion – you made it a real treat and we felt like celebrities. We really enjoyed making so many new friends over the fortnight. Thank you Susan for an amazing concert and a barbecue in the gardens – a real highlight – and for seamlessly looking after us. A wonderful holiday – one we will treasure.
I booked Arosmari with slight hesitation as we ordinarily have a beach holiday where the beach is within walking distance. However, the lovely village of Vamos and the beautiful properties at Arosmari won me over within minutes of arriving. The properties are in such a pretty part of the village and are beautifully maintained. They aren't crowded together and afford a nice degree of privacy. The gardens are simply beautiful. There is even an amphitheatre where we were treated to an evening of traditional Greek music. At night, with the lamps and twinkle lights all shining, it takes on a magical quality. We sat here in the comfortable chairs with big squashy cushions most nights, having a nightcap from the honesty bar – sometimes alone and sometimes with other guests from the hotel. The hotel is very small so you tend to get to know people by name, either at breakfast or by the pool. Nikos is a welcoming host and Susan, Sotiris and Ruby are a great team. They do everything possible to make sure that everything is as perfect as can be. Ruby's cooking skills are quite something. Everything from omelettes to poached eggs, to homemade cheese pies to delicious cakes, pastries and jams. What a gem! Susan and Sotiris can't do enough for you. They are cheery and helpful without being intrusive. They have turned hospitality into a real art form. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble. There are some nice tavernas within walking distance with a traditional Greek night sometimes put on. Susan booked tables for us, gave us directions, told us the best places to park in the nearby towns and, because she lives locally, could tell us all the best places to go for our shopping and eating, etc. The local people were all very friendly too. There are beaches within a 10-minute drive, Chania is 30-40 minutes away, but Vamos is a little haven of peace up in the hills and we were always happy to be going back there after our day trips out. There are plenty of nice walks from the hotel and Susan has guide books and walking books for you to borrow. I felt thoroughly relaxed and rested after our 2-week holiday there. It was like being on a retreat. I can imagine going back there, flopping into the big comfortable chairs, having a glass of wine from the honesty bar and immediately feeling the comforting peace of Arosmari wash over me year after year. An absolute gem.
Thank you so much for an amazing 2-week holiday. Arosmari was perfect for us and for our first time visiting Crete. It’s in a beautiful setting in the charming village of Vamos, the lovely cottages are based around a stunning garden and pool making for an extremely relaxing holiday. Susan was an incredible host and guided us every day on local things to do/visit and great recommendations for local restaurants. The combination of hotel style with self-catering made everything very effortless, allowing us to explore the local area or just relax and enjoy the incredible pool and surroundings. We could not fault Arosmari and the team – it was perfect and thank you for looking after us so well.
A thoroughly relaxing fortnight back at Arosmari. All the stresses and strains of modern life eased away by this island of calm tranquillity. Thank you as ever to the wonderful team. This was our third visit to Fennel over four years and little has changed. Long may that continue.
Arosmari is a haven – quite beautiful, with ample grounds to sit and read, have a drink at the Honesty Bar, visit the minute chapel or be pampered in the Spa by the very good Italian-born couple in a beautiful room. Breakfasts are amazing and the extremely helpful rep, Susan, to help your plans for the day, make bookings or provide routes. Each cottage is different but all are beautifully done and very well serviced. And Vamos has all you could need for immediate provisions, and home baker and very un-touristy. As a peaceful, friendly, relaxing holiday I doubt if it could be bettered. The backdrop of the White Mountains and wall-to-wall sun and blue sky makes it all well-nigh perfect.
We had originally booked a week but fell so in love with Arosmari that we decided to stay on for a second week. This was organised by the incomparable Susan. Arosmari is a delighful and idyllic haven. Susan, Sotiris and Ruby have looked after us wonderfully and we would like to thank Simpson Travel for providing this quality of accommodation and exceptional staff.
A truly relaxing holiday. Calm, quiet, wonderful staff and delightful setting. We didn’t travel much but there is clearly a lot to do if the mood takes you. However, with no feelings of guilt at all, we just chilled.
We felt so at home at Arosmari we could quite happily have stayed forever. I even cried in the taxi on the way back to the airport! A very special place in a very special village where, by the end of our three week stay, we felt part of the community such was the friendliness of the people and the general ambiance. We will return!
From the moment we arrived at Arosmari we felt as if we were embraced in a warm, friendly hug. The stresses and strains of life at home melted away almost as soon as we settled in on the first day. The Simpsons concierge was superb – from providing detailed driving instructions to local attractions, including the best places to park, to arranging a wonderful Greek music concert in the grounds of the hotel, with food cooked by the owner's family and local wine flowing freely! Spending time at the hotel pool was a delight. The honesty bar, the company of other hotel guests and the accompaniment of cicadas in the olive trees which surround the pool made it an idyllic way to relax after a day spent sightseeing. The holiday was exactly what we needed – rest, relaxation, plenty to see and do (if we chose to) and a peaceful, comfortable location and accommodation with outstanding service from all the staff. This was our first trip with Simpson Travel – it will definitely not be the last!
This was our first experience booking with Simpson Travel and it definitely won't be our last! What a refreshing change to find a company that goes the extra mile in an age where customer service often comes second to profit and cost cutting efficiencies. Arosmari Village Hotel is an amazing place. An oasis of calm and relaxation and totally chilling out, helped by the wonderful therapies on offer. The staff are absolutely wonderful – thank you so much to Susan, Sotiris and Ruby for making us feel like we were part of a very special family and to Roberto for the amazing massages and treatments. The music evenings were delightful, we absolutely loved them! It was one of our favourite holidays and we feel very lucky to have had this experience.
We had a fantastic holiday with Simpson Travel again! We loved beautiful Arosmari and our cottage. We were so well looked after by Susan, Sotiris and Ruby. Nothing was too much for them, including the fantastic breakfast, the excellent advice on places to visit and the care and attention that was shown to every guest. The concert by Nikos and friends in the amphitheatre was a truly atmospheric and amazing experience, followed by the best food we had on the island! Last but not least, Roberto and Manuela gave absolutely exceptional spa treatments – adding to our lovely and relaxing holiday!
This has been home from home. A beautiful cottage with everything you need and in the most wonderful setting. We have had the very best time. Susan and Sotiris could not have been more attentive and helpful. Nikos and his mother’s cooking have added a lovely dimension to the holiday. We have felt very much part of the family. Thank you Ruby for our breakfasts and wonderful panecotta. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
We absolutely loved this place. It was so quiet and peaceful and the staff were wonderful. Although we have been to Crete many times there are so many more places to explore, which is why we hope to be back again next year. The venue of course will be the unique Arosmari village.
More like a retreat than a holiday village! So peaceful, green and tranquil. We return feeling very refreshed and utterly spoiled by a superb staff, headed by Susan. Susan could not have done any more to make our stay here more enjoyable. She is so informed and helpful. We hope to return soon.
Another wonderful holiday by Simpson. Keep doing what you do best. Thank you for fantastic customer care.
Having experienced Simpson Travel many years ago we were confident to take my sister and her husband to Arosmari. From start to finish everything was perfection and the level of service didn’t disappoint. Arosmari is everything anyone would need for a relaxing authentic Cretan holiday. Beautiful surroundings, freshly prepared breakfasts and the attention of Susan for all other arrangements. My sister is already planning her holidays for next year with Simpson Travel, she just needs to decide where.
Loved our stay in Kefalonia. Great place for a family holiday. Fantastic location with two amazing tavernas down the road. Loved the beach bar. Thanks to John and Karen for all their help and suggestions. We will return.
A very relaxing holiday in Oregano Cottage. Susan and Sotiris were very helpful and friendly. Arosmari is a beautiful spot with wonderful gardens. We will be back.
Arosmari is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of busy lives, and totally relax in the gorgeous surroundings of the Greek countryside. It is a truly serene and calming location with wonderfully rustic stone cottages, delicious homemade breakfasts every morning, and pretty gardens to wander through, set against the stunning and dramatic backdrop of the Cretan mountains.
Lovely, peaceful holiday. Thanks to all the staff for your wonderful, friendly service. We will return to this unique location.
This is just what we wanted. Peace. Thank you Susan, Sotiris, Ruby and all the staff for making our stay so memorable. We loved the peace and quiet – the wonderful scenery, the choice of going out to explore the area or just sit by the pool and relax. We swam in the sea at GK Beach (a Simpson Hotel) and it was wonderful. I am sure we will be back!
We’ve had a wonderful week here. It’s one of the nicest places we’ve ever been to – quite unique. The view from the balcony is to die for. Many thanks to all the staff who have made us feel so welcome. We hope to be back as there are so many more places to explore. So sad to leave – the week has gone by far too quickly.
We have had the most amazing week. We can’t thank Karen and John enough for all the extra special touches they did to help us celebrate our 40th anniversary. We came here to relax and unwind and we most definitely have achieved our goal! The team at Avithos keep the estate beautifully clean and tidy. We are sad to leave but take back wonderful memories and hope to return in the future.
We’ve had a fantastic week – Kefalonia has exceeded our expectations. The island is beautiful and Avithos Beach is perfect. There is far more to do and see here than we expected and we wish we could have stayed longer. Listen to Karen and John – their tips and knowledge are always spot on. Thank you everyone – we have loved every minute.
Friendliness, professionalism and knowledge was excellent from all staff. Susan, Sotiris and Ruby provided an extremely high level of service, combined with discretion that made us feel very welcome and at ease.
The village of Arosmari is wonderful. We loved our cottage, pool and the delightful gardens. Susan and Sotiris were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble including sourcing a birthday cake for my partner’s birthday. We loved the concert and thanks to Nikos and the talented Ruby. All in all we loved it and we will be back.
We did not use a rental car but that was not a problem as the hotel was well situated in Vamos. The pool area was beautifully situated in the hotel grounds and the staff became friends and nothing was too much trouble. The service was excellent. We would certainly recommend a stay at the hotel if you want an excellent holiday experience.
The most relaxing holiday my husband and I have ever experienced. The village was a beautiful green oasis, immaculately maintained and so peaceful. So glad we found it as I know it is a place we will be returning to again and again.
One word – perfect! This has been a most relaxing retreat from the crazy world we come from. From the freshly-produced breakfast, amazing treatments to the peace and tranquillity of the gardens and pool area – we have enjoyed everything. Thank you to Susan, Sotiris, Ruby, Manuela and Roberto for being so helpful, kind and welcoming. The food, wine and music at the concert was superb. Keep doing what you do, Simpson Travel.
This was our second visit to Arosmari Village Hotel. It was as excellent as before. We loved the garden, pool, and general ambiance of the place. It is a wonderful place to relax and wind down. The views from the property towards the mountains – still topped with snow in May! – are second to none.
Our second visit to Arosmari with Simpson Travel was as enjoyable as our first, with the added addition of the scent of orange blossom throughout. We plan to return next year.
What a great find – never been to Crete before but would highly recommend the island and Arosmari. Easy walking to a variety of tavernas. There is never enough time to do everything so we will have to return! Thanks to all the staff – Ruby, Sotiris, the cleaning fairies and especially Susan for her help, advice and directions.
Our first holiday on the very beautiful island of Crete. What a magical place – so much to see and very different to the Rou Estate in Corfu where we’ve stayed twice before. Susan and her team looked after us wonderfully well and we were very happy. The breakfasts were always so brilliantly presented. We shall miss climbing done the stone stairs to collect the treats. So many happy memories.
This was our second week in Crete, but first time in this idyllic cottage! It most definitely won’t be our last though! What an absolutely gorgeous place to stay and to enjoy this quite stunning corner of Crete. We’ve loved everything about the Arosmari experience – the lovely cottage, the fabulous breakfasts that have set up for the day’s activities, the pool and superb treatments from the excellent Robert and Manuela (highly recommended) and best of all – Susan and Sotiris who have made our stay one we’ll remember forever. We can’t wait to visit again.
This was our 31st wedding anniversary treat and what a treat it was! Such a lovely, quiet and peaceful setting. We went out and explored various places when we felt like it and stayed there to laze in the sun when we didn’t. We both felt very ‘looked after’ by Susan, Ruby and Sotiris, which just added to the ‘treaty’ feel. A holiday to remember!
A beautiful relaxing place to stay in a great location. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The manager, Susan, has great local knowledge and can always give information on where to visit, walk and eat. Loved it. We will be back.
Had a wonderful stay – lots to see and do and would love to return. Had a very happy week and extremely comfortable and well looked after. Thank you.
Another very pleasant week here. Everybody helpful. A big thanks to all the staff.
Arosmari is a so delightful and such a pleasant way to escape from the worries of poor old UK and Brexit. Thanks so much to Susan and Sotiris especially, though how Ruby retains her sanity after cooking endless scrambled, poached and fried eggs for us all defies all logic. This has been our second visit to Arosmari and it won’t be our last. Such a treat and a great place from which to explore this end of the island.
Spent a glorious week at Arosmari. It is the best of all worlds – a private villa with the benefits of Ruby’s wonderful breakfasts and the attentive service of Sotiris. Apart from the church bells, the noisiest things are the birds – how peaceful is that! We’ve enjoyed our first visit to Crete and Arosmari is the perfect introduction. Thank you to Susan for her help and advice and to Nicos for this lovely place.
We have absolutely loved our stay at Arosmari – the cottage and the gardens are a joy and the surrounding villages feel like the ‘real’ Crete. Walking from Vamos using the local guide book is highly recommended. Our thanks go to Susan, Sotiris, Ruby (for fab breakfasts) and the staff who keep the cottages spotlessly clean.
We were VERY WELL cared for by the staff at Arosmari, a charming collection of traditional yet well-equipped cottages with many delightful facilities, clustered on the edge of this typical Cretan hill village.
A relaxing couple of weeks in Arugula – loved the beautiful gardens and pool area and enjoyed Ruby’s breakfasts to start each day. Thank you to Susan for all her tips and advice and to Sotiris for seeming to know what we wanted before we did!
A big thank you to Susan and Sotiris for their help and kindness during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble; their time is much appreciated.
We’ve had a lovely week. Everything at Arosmari is beautifully run – the gardens, the pool, the bar, the breakfast. All designed to give the most relaxing holiday.
Delightful accommodation and wonderful, the peace and quiet is most welcome as well as the village of Vamos – everyone is so friendly. It’s a perfect place to recharge your batteries.
This was our second experience of a Simpson Travel holiday. We continue to be most impressed, not only with the choice of locations and holidays but with the extremely efficient and friendly way that the holidays are provided. This completely takes the stress out of travel at some busy airports (UK and abroad) and airport to destination.
What a lovely place to stay. Arosmari Village Hotel is so unique and we were made to feel very welcome. We loved the cottage and we certainly want to visit again.
This is our fifth holiday at Arosmari. Susan is a fantastic manager and looked after us so well we even got cream cakes on a rainy day!
Yet another wonderful Arosmari experience. The ambience and peace are just wonderful. The concert as always, truly unique and Ruby, as always, a perfect cook.
Our holiday at Arosmari Village Hotel was just amazing, we simply could not have asked for more. It was like having our own private villa in Crete.
Arosmari Village Hotel is a very special place. A cluster of individual cottages each with their own charm, a beautiful pool, manicured grounds and a host of thoughtful extras designed to make your stay a totally relaxing experience. Arosmari is also a sociable place and Sue, the Simpson Travel manager, is the perfect hostess. We loved the concert in the garden, the art exhibition and farewell drinks and watching the sun go down over the mountains with a glass of local wine on the terrace.
We had a wonderful week at Arosmari Village Hotel. The team, particularly Susan and Sotiris, were very friendly and helpful and made sure we had the perfect week. Ruby’s amazing breakfasts were the perfect start to each day and then we spent most days relaxing by the pool or elsewhere in the beautiful gardens. Susan was always available for recommendations when we felt like exploring the area or for dinner suggestions. It was also our first Simpson Travel holiday and we found the whole experience seamless from beginning to end.
Arosmari Village Hotel is a wonderful relaxing place. Our cottage was charming and spacious and the facilities were excellent, 10/10.
Wow, what a wonderful week we had! Thyme Cottage is fabulous and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Ruby’s breakfasts are to die for – absolutely fantastic! The place is so clean and well maintained – we just enjoyed ‘being’ and left feeling very relaxed.
We enjoyed a fabulously relaxing week in Bay Cottage, helped effortlessly by Nikos, Susan and Sotiris. The Vamos Ensemble concert was a revelation – thank you Nikos. Thank you Sotiris for spot on guidance to the local beaches, and thank you Susan for excellent ideas for day trips. Crete is a very welcoming, easy going island.
A wonderful, idyllic setting, with friendly and attentive staff.
We had a really lovely week in Mint Cottage. Arosmari Village Hotel is an oasis of calm in the busy village of Vamos. There is lots to do and see, but equally, it’s a wonderful place to relax.
We thought Arosmari Village Hotel was a wonderful haven of peace and tranquillity far away from the usual tourist destinations. Our villa was delightful and was kept immaculately clean. The breakfasts cooked by Ruby were wonderful and Susan, the Simpson Travel concierge was extremely helpful and informative. We experienced something of authentic Greece and felt part of village life. Altogether a wonderful experience.
This was our third visit in a row to Arosmari so it shows how much we enjoy our stays there. It feels almost like a second home and provides a perfect and relaxing holiday environment in a wonderful setting.
Arosmari Village Hotel is a perfect balance of beautiful, rural and tranquil location and just enough contact with others to be welcome and enjoyable. It gives the feel of self-catering, without too much effort, making for a very relaxing holiday.
Arosmari Village Hotel is a beautiful hotel made up of individually renovated Cretan properties, each with their own charm. Arosmari is an oasis in the village of Vamos. Susan, the Simpson Travel concierge and her team provide an excellent service - nothing is too much trouble. Having lived in Crete for many years, Susan has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is able to recommend and guide residents.
Wonderful hotel and gardens. Charming, helpful staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. Vamos village is authentic and friendly with some super tavernas.
We had an excellent week at the Arosmari Village Hotel. The setting is charming just outside the village of Vamos with magnificent views of the White Mountains. The garden, pool and eating area are extremely well maintained and the breakfast provided made up of mainly local produce was of superb quality. We particularly enjoyed the Friday night concert of Greek music held in the delightful little amphitheatre in the gardens followed by the excellent buffet dinner. I cannot commend highly enough Sue the Simpson Travel representative. She was friendly and a font of knowledge. Without her, our Cretan experience would not have been half as enjoyable.
My husband and I spent a week at Arosmari. If you want a truly Cretan living experience then this is the place to go. The village is beautiful, peaceful and most importantly relaxing. The gardens are an oasis of calm and tranquillity. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and Susan and the team make you feel at home from the second you arrive. Thank you to Ruby for the wonderful breakfasts. Thanks to Simpson Travel for making the booking experience so easy – we will be back.
This was our first experience of Crete (or anywhere in Greece) and we felt we could not have gone with a better company than Simpson Travel, or stayed in a better place than Arosmari Village Hotel. The mix of hotel facilities (B&B) and self-catering facilities (if preferred to dining out) was perfect. Breakfasts were an absolute delight, lunches the same, if required. There are plenty of great tavernas to choose from – we felt we actually had a real Cretan experience. You’re in a village, surrounded by local people (they are amazing) and local sights and sounds. So, if you’re looking for a crowded resort with English menu cafés and restaurants, this hotel is not for you. It’s a great location for exploring western Crete. We managed to cover more than 2,500 kilometres in our two weeks. Totally spectacular. Simpson Travel helped enormously to make this holiday one of the best we’ve ever had and we will definitely be using them in the future.
It was a pleasure to find such a well-thought out and equipped village hotel in Crete. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff made our week there a real treat.
Arosmari Village Hotel is a lovely mix of self-contained accommodation (like a villa) with superb communal breakfasts, swimming pool and terrace areas (like a hotel) that is all set within a lovely garden. The location in Vamos village adds to the unique feel of this place. We quickly relaxed from our hectic pace of life and enjoyed the Cretan warmth and culture. The Simpson Travel team were great – they truly enhanced our stay with their friendly and effective service. A great holiday.
The perfect place to unwind. In no time you slip into Cretan time where nothing is rushed. Arosmari Village Hotel is a little bit of paradise.
A wonderful relaxing week in a beautiful part of Crete. So peaceful and with stunning views across the valley to the White Mountains. Arosmari Village Hotel is a little oasis. Delicious breakfasts served by Ruby and Yiannis. Nikos always there with a welcome smile and his generous invitation to join his family for their Easter Day celebration lunch was a highlight of our holiday. Susan and Sotiris so knowledgeable, helpful and fun. Easy local walks in the countryside without having to drive. Being Easter and early in the season the choice of tavernas for evening meals was somewhat limited but the ones that were open were excellent. If you want somewhere to unwind, this is your place.Mrs.
Arosmari is an excellent hotel - comfortable accommodation in a fantastic location for a ‘get away from it all’ holiday, whilst retaining all the amenities of a truly quality hotel. The friendly catering staff (all locals) were very attentive and catered to our every need. The cleaning and pool staff were efficient and unobtrusive. Susan was extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the local area as well as further afield and she was always around to attend to us and answer all our questions effectively. Another excellent holiday. Many thanks.
Arosmari is a very special place with the care from Nikos, Susan and Ruby making you feel like guests in their own home. The village is very real and authentic with excellent Cretan food at very reasonable prices. The village offers excellent walks and allows you to see into the lives of local shepherds, beekeepers, etc. Fabulous cooking courses too. Just go, you won't regret it.
We loved Mint Cottage; the pool was great for 'proper' swimming; Ruby's breakfast are superb with such a lovely variety of local produce and wonderful poached eggs! Without exception, all staff are fantastic! Sue and Derek are so knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. Really appreciated the regular linen change and daily clean. Highly recommend the music evenings. Very pleased to have found Simpson Travel and we hope to be returning customers.
This is the fourth year we have been to Arosmari in Vamos and absolutely love it. We get there and feel instantly relaxed, the atmosphere you have created is magical. Please don't change a thing!
A last minute decision, so a brief visit. Our first time in Crete, weather mixed but some lovely days. Sue was lovely and really attentive giving us helpful tips, what to see, etc. Highlight of our stay was a trip over the mountain to the coast, all very dramatic and beautiful. Rosemary Cottage was really comfortable and suited us very well. Many thanks, we will be back!
Arosmari is a delightful and authentic Greek experience. The cottages are simple and very comfortable with beautiful views of the White Mountains. Breakfast was delicious and the local village tavernas served some very tasty traditional Greek food. A lovely place to holiday.
Such a delightful home that is hard to leave. We shall miss the gardens, the views, the delicious breakfasts (thank you Ruby) the great choices of tavernas, the air and tranquillity and of course the wonderful team who have made everything so easy.
The Simpson Travel experience is far superior to other agents that we have used. Their attention to detail is second to none and most importantly the customer's satisfaction is always considered.
We have just had the best week. The hotel was delightful. Beautiful gardens with the stunning backdrop of the White Mountains. Susan and Derek, the reps, at the hotel could not be more helpful and friendly without being intrusive. Delicious breakfasts provided by Ruby. We really did not want to leave and we are seriously considering a return visit which we rarely do. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
We have just enjoyed a fabulous fortnight here with wall to wall sunshine every day. Arosmari Village Hotel is a little paradise in Greece, and we have been looked after very well by Susan, Derek and Ruby. The breakfasts were phenomenal. The concerts held in our amphitheatre were truly memorable – as was Ruby's gastronomic treats served afterwards. We will be back!
We returned for another week of Paradise at Arosmari and it has all flown by far too quickly. We are so grateful for Sue and Derek; so welcome and hospitable throughout the week; for Ruby's magnificent breakfasts and the wonderful spread she put on for Costas and Nikos' marvellous concert; for the consummate musicianship, enjoyment and entertainment that the ensemble gave us and what a great venue – how many other places have an amphitheatre in their garden. For the pool, the staff and all the lovely guests who have made out stay so special.
Steve and I have had a really amazing week in Mint Cottage. We have loved everything about the beautiful area around Vamos and retrieved memories from 20 years ago when we were last here. Agree with previous comments about the wonderful restaurants on our doorstep. Thanks to Sue and Derek, Ruby, Nikos and all the team. Simpson Travel is a real favourite of ours.
Once again an excellent service was provided from booking, representatives at the resort, car service. The accommodation was of a high standard as per the description on the website. The region, Vamos in Crete, was perfect for that quiet and relaxing getaway, which was much needed. Both my husband and I are very impressed with the service offered by Simpson Travel and would and have recommended them to friends and family.
We've really enjoyed our stay at Arosmari. The location is an excellent base for excursions to surrounding beaches and the mountains. Derek and Susan have been so welcoming and willing to share their extensive knowledge of the island.
There is one outstanding feature about Arosmari Village, and of course the delightful Fennel Cottage, and that is Nikos' dedication to creating a haven of natural beauty and tranquillity in his village, which has finally prised tourists off the coast. His dedication to music and the exceptional concert held in the amphitheatre where he and a friend performed, was further testimony to him ensuring his village thrives in difficult economic times. Fennel Cottage, the gardens and the entire Arosmari complex is a fantastic and welcome refuge. Thank you to the brilliant team – Sue,Derek, Ruby and Nikos for making it all possible.
Another visit to Paradise. Our second visit to Arosmari but first to Thyme Cottage – we just love it here, everything about it, especially about the staff. Susan, Derek, Kikos, Ruby and everybody – just delightful. We have done some magnificent walks in and around Vamos and Almyrida. We really love it all and will return next year. Thank you all so much, a wonderful week.
Our second visit to Arosmari and just as enjoyable. The staff here are brilliant and Derek and Sue have been marvellous. We don't often go back to places we have been before but think this may be an exception.
We have had the most wonderful and relaxing holiday at Mint Cottage. Derek and Susan have been so helpful and knowledgeable as have the whole Arosmari team! Thank you to everyone!
Another lovely Simpson Travel holiday! Arosmari is a place of peace and tranquillity, great stress reliever! Crete has some beautiful places to visit. We have had some great music nights, if you get the chance the 'Vamos Ensemble' is an excellent performance as are the many local musical evenings. Our hosts, Susan and Derek, have been super – so much knowledge of the area.
Very satisfied with the holiday, due to the attention to detail one would expect from Simpson Travel.
Really super holiday, the location was excellent, facilities and staff top class! Susan and Derek were great.
Arosmari is like taking a step back in time, a beautiful sleepy hillside village with other destinations close by should you feel the need to travel further afield. From the moment we arrived it was a lovely experience, beautiful location, character properties, super reps in Susan and Derek, combined with fabulous breakfasts and a lovely pool and garden area. We could not have asked for more. Another lovely Simpson Travel holiday, total rest and relaxation.
Arosmari is a beautiful place to stay, with lovely gardens an excellent pool. Quiet, comfortable and it's all beautifully presented – we would stay there again.
We were very grateful for all the comments made in this book and heartily agree with all the positive ones, of which there were so many. Susan and Derek made everyone feel welcome and special, Ruby prepares an excellent breakfast and Stelios is a wonderful masseuse. If you are lucky enough to be here when the Vamos Ensemble (orchestrated by Nikos) gives a concert, do go! Unbelievably high standard and a marvellous evening. As ever, with Simpson Travel it was a delightful holiday.
This was my first Simpson Travel holiday with my two adult children but also a first visit to Crete. Vamos is a lovely town with great walks of varying lengths. Everyone was extremely welcoming and our rep, Susan, was a constant source of knowledge. Our house was very comfortable; the pool clean and inviting and the breakfasts never ending! There was a fantastic music night and buffet provided by the owner Nikos.
Simpson Travel gave us a wonderful holiday to look forward to and look back on.
Our holiday in Arosmari was a wonderful relaxing break. The reps and staff ensured we had everything we needed and we really appreciated the extra touches – home-baked biscuits, wine, flowers, candles, etc. I would recommend this holiday to anyone.
Thoroughly enjoyed the break – Susan was excellent in giving information. The concert on the last night was magical.
A restful, tranquil hotel but one that doesn't feel like a hotel. Beautiful grounds and buildings with a gorgeous swimming pool. Excellent breakfasts served in an informal and enchanting setting. Most of all, Sue and Derek could not be more welcoming, friendly and helpful – always making time to advise or just chat – yet never being intrusive. A great place for a relaxing break.
Relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings. Susan and Derek couldn't have been more helpful.
Everything was great – accommodation; staff; Simpson Travel reps (Derek and Susan); access to local tavernas; proximity to local sites of interest. Shame that we could only stay a week.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our time on the island of Crete! Wonderful beaches, friendly people, great food and a charming cottage with beautiful gardens. The peaceful and laid back tranquillity of Vamos really rubbed off on us and we returned home very relaxed.
We have just had the most fabulous, relaxing week. Thank you Nikos, Sue, Mike and Ruby – the eggs are the best! We will be back there as there is so much more to do and see. The musical evening on Friday was one of the highlights of the week, the food, music and company was excellent.
Exactly what we needed! Perfect location, lovely staff and delicious food...we'll be back!
Charmed by our first Cretan adventure at every turn.

The soaring White Mountains, known in Greek as the Lefka Ori, are at the heart of West Crete’s dramatically beautiful landscape and the villages in their foothills offer traditional Cretan fare in glorious abundance – that’s if Chania’s twinkling harbour lights and waterfront dining don’t entice you first. Spring brings an abundance of flowers, turning hiking trails and gorges into welcome destinations for walkers, and in summer, the many beaches offer sun worshippers a choice of scenic locations to spread their towels.
