What are the best areas to stay in Mallorca for villa holidays?

Just about every corner of Mallorca has its appeal, so of course the best area will depend on what you want from your holiday. The liveliest, most commercial areas are in the south near the capital Palma, but if you’re looking for a more upmarket and family-friendly vibe, head north east across the island to Pollensa. Your two hubs here are Pollensa (or Pollença) Town and its nearby beach resort, Puerto Pollensa, a.k.a. Port de Pollença.

Pollensa’s attractive Old Town is a maze of streets and narrow alleyways (tip: leave the car in one of the car parks on the edge of town!), which converge upon a wonderful central church square full of quality restaurants and cafes. It’s pleasantly lively but far from raucous, just like the sprawling Sunday market that takes over the town once a week and is highly recommended for everything from fresh bread to a new bikini. If you happen to be here at the start of August, don’t miss the White Night (or Marcha Fresca) street party which takes place in the square as a modern addition to the traditional festival of La Patrona usually on the 1stor 2nd of August.

Puerto Pollensa

About 10 minutes away on the coast is Puerto Pollensa, which has a big marina plus many cafes, restaurants and small shops, offering all the holiday treats and essentials you could wish for, without feeling overwhelmingly commercial. The larger beaches are to the south of the marina, where you can also book in for watersports and boat trips. To the north of the marina, there’s a lovely promenade, commonly referred to as the Pine Walk after the ancient Aleppo pines and holm oaks that line the route. It’s a gentle stroll of about 30 mins, just right to work up a thirst for your pre-dinner drinks or to get the baby to drop off in a buggy.

The countryside all around Pollensa and the beach is dotted with luxury villas, making this one of the best locations on Mallorca for a holiday as you are within a short drive of the town and the beach. If you want to get a bit more off the beaten track, there are some good hikes either along the coast or into the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains – ask your local concierge about recommended routes, or take a look at our guide to the Pollensa area here for more inspiration on places to visit and things to do.

Are villa holidays in Pollensa good for families?

Short answer: yes! Mallorca is both fun and practical for families with kids from babies and toddlers to teens and tweens. Getting there is easy. The flights from the UK are generally around 2.5 hours, and once you arrive it’s a never more than an hour to your villa in the Pollensa area.

If you book a Simpson Travel Family Friendly villa then you’ll get a property that’s specially selected for younger guests, with a large garden and a box of garden toys and games waiting for you on arrival. If you’re bringing a baby then look out for our brilliant (and free!) infant packs so you can pack a bit lighter and travel easier. As parents and grandparents ourselves, we understand that taking young kids away can feel a bit daunting, so we can also arrange stair gates and pool fencing at most villas, and you can talk to one of our team who’s visited the villa personally to check all the details. Once you arrive, our island concierge will be in touch to make sure you have everything you need, and to give advice on anything from beaches to booking restaurants. This is what sets a specialist like Simpson Travel apart from the huge online booking platforms, so do make the most of this free, expert advice! Are there villas in Pollensa suitable for large groups?

Villa holidays are a no-brainer for groups. Unlike a hotel, you get lots of space to socialise just with each other and a big garden with a private pool which means you can do pretty much whatever you want, whenever you want to.

We offer villas for up to 6, 8, 10 or even 12 people in great locations near Pollensa or Puerto Pollensa. Travelling with a group adds an extra level of logistics, and our experts are here to guide you. Need a table for 12 on a Saturday night? Happy to recommend and reserve for you. Love the villa so much that you prefer to stay in? How about a private chef to cook dinner, or an in-villa wine tasting… or both? Celebrating something? How about a private sunset cruise on a traditional Mallorcan boat – loads of laughs and cool photos guaranteed.

Do Pollensa villas have private pools and air-conditioning?

That’s another yes from us. We’re pretty fussy about the villas in our collection, so you’ll always have a private pool at a Simpson Travel Pollensa villa and at least partial air-conditioning so you can sleep comfortably even in August. Having a private pool lends such a relaxed rhythm to your day. From a morning dip for early risers to pre-dinner drinks while the sky turns pink, the pool becomes the focus of your holiday, and it’s all yours to enjoy whenever you like. Some of our villas even have a heated pool, which is a sound investment if you want to take your holiday in April, May or October.

How can I find out about late availability in Mallorca

Left things a bit late? Life gets in the way sometimes, and that’s exactly when you need a holiday the most. Once the season gets underway, if we have any villas available last-minute you can find them listed on our late availability hub – all the info you need in one convenient place. Flight prices almost always rise rather than fall the closer you get to your travel date, so please book as early as you can, but if you need to get away at short notice, try us and we’ll do our best to help.
